WOTIM - Web based Organized Trade Information Management
The Opportunity
A major FMCG company wanted a solution that could be used by their salesmen, while they were on the route, to collect point of sales information, from their Organized Trade customers. The company introduced a new role called TCM (Multicategory Techno Commercial) employees whose role would be to collect the POS information through conducted surveys. Hence a tool was required on Hand held device (to address mobility) which would help the TCM collect the information through surveys
Our Approach
Create a centrally accessible back-office web based system would cater to
- Survey Creation
- Survey Reporting
- Messaging
- Create interfaces on the hand held device required to conduct the survey
- Integrate the back office system with the hand held device through the master files, upload and download process to transfer data between the two systems
Our Solution
- As a web based solution was required, we used JSP, Java Script to develop the front end interfaces, Java Servlets and Java beans as middleware and Oracle database as the back end for storing data.
- The application is based on MVC architecture
There are three main components of the back-office web-based solution:
- Survey Engine: Used to define and generate surveys to be downloaded to Hand held application.
- Survey reporting: Defining a set of tables to store output from surveys, that will be used to create reports and to analyze results from surveys
- Messages: Provide facility to send and receive messages from TCM users
On the hand held device the following components are required:
- General information: Receive back-office information not linked to any customer.
- Messages: Route level messages and customer level messages
- Surveys: Receive surveys created through the back-office module
- Upload Survey Results: Must be able to upload collected information.
- Plan reporting: Plan at customer level
